THREATS

It is possible that due to their negative impact on fisheries, jellyfish populations could be reduced. During jellyfish blooms in areas managed by fisheries, jellyfish are captured in nets and hauled to the surface resulting in the loss of structural integrity. This could have a potential impact on the populations of jellyfish worldwide.

Increased coastal development, industrialisation and pollution have also been observed to lead to decreases in jellyfish populations (Mills, 2001). This has been found to impact local or regionalised ecosystems where the habitat has been degraded (Mills, 2001).

It is evident from the above information that there is relatively little that can threaten Aequorea sp.
